Our Core Values What Guides Our Work

As an independent think tank, the 4future.institute analyzes social, economic, and technological developments. Our core values are not declarations of intent, but working principles that determine how we arrive at insights and how we contextualize public debates.

Our work operates within the normative framework of Europe’s liberal-democratic order. This includes in particular the rule of law, separation of powers, the protection of fundamental and civil rights, freedom of expression and of science, and the democratic legitimacy of state action. These principles form the foundation on which we analyze and contextualize social, economic, and technological developments.

Independence
We work free from political, commercial, or institutional interests. Analysis, assessment, and implementation remain clearly separated. The basis of our independence is our owner, the non-profit 4future.foundation.

Evidence and Academic Integrity
Our work is based on transparent data, sources, and methods. We draw a clear distinction between facts, interpretation, and assessment.

Systemic Thinking
We examine technology, economy, and society in terms of their interdependencies. We reject simplifications where they fail to do justice to the complexity of real systems.

Responsibility in Contextualization
We assess technological and social developments also with regard to their long-term impact on democracy, freedom, participation, and social resilience.

Clarity in Public Discourse
We contribute to the de-escalation of social debates — beyond alarmism, polarization, and technological promises of salvation.
